[Purposes] This paper aims to construct a new index for journal evaluation through academic innovation rather that academic influence Journal Disruption Index (JDI), and conduct empirical research.
[Methods] We selected 22 journals with?0% Article, whose citation relationship could be obtained in the Open Citations Index of Crossref open DOI-to-DOI citations (COCI) , among 34 journals of Virology in Web of Science in 2016 as the research objects. JDI of each journal was calculated separately, and the differences between JDI and journal Cumulative impact Factor for 5 Years (CIF5), Journal Index for PR(JIPR6), and Average Percentile in Subject Area (aPSA) were analyzed.
[Findings] There are big differences in the ranking results of journals based on innovation index and influence index. There are 12 (54.5%) journals whose JDI ranking is higher that the ranking of impact indicators, and 17 (77.0% ) journals whose ranking difference between the two categories of indicators is ?5. JDI is moderately correlated with CIF5, JIPR6, and aPSA, and the correlation degrees are 0.486, 0.471, and -0.448, respectively. Dz of the article is also moderately correlated with Accumulated Citations (AC), Percentile Ranking with 6 Classifications (PR6) and Percentile in Subject Area (PSA), with the correlation degrees of 0.593, 0.575, and -0.593, respectively.
[Conclusions] The application of JDI in the evaluation of scientific journals can better reflect the academic quality and originality of journals, objectively reflect the academic level of scientific journals, and help promote the sound development of academic research, scientific journals and academic evaluation system.
